My name is Joanne Whitney and I have had the privilege of being a part of An Apple a Day Academy since 2015. I grew up in the UK, where I trained as a Nursery Nurse to become a true English Nanny! This first job allowed me to immerse myself in two of my greatest passions- Early Childhood Education and Travel and is the reason I ended up living in the US. When I got married and had children of my own I ran a very successful home daycare for ten years. It was during this time I really began to realize the importance of play and a connection to nature
in the life of young children and as my interest in this area grew I was introduced to the teaching practices of Reggio Emilia.
With my interest in Reggio inspired teaching growing every day, I was lucky enough to find a job in a Reggio inspired preschool, where I ended up teaching for fifteen years. Towards the end of my time there my interest in forest school education and an even more holistic approach to early childhood teaching began to really blossom and I was blessed enough to meet Christina. As they say,” the rest is history!” I realized our philosophies on teaching and nurturing young children were totally aligned and it was time for me to put my director’s and Reggio, nature and forest school training to good use and join her school.
Together with a team of amazing and creative teachers I am committed to providing your children with a joyful, loving and developmentally sound foundation for a lifetime of learning. At An Apple a Day we know that play is a child’s most important work and we strive to create and maintain an emergent curriculum where your child can grow and thrive while exploring the world around them. Thank you for sharing your amazing little humans with us.
